40K game day at Jack’s!
With Dave W wanting to get in some practice games for a friendly narrative tournament he’s got at the end of the month, we scheduled a game day at Jack’s to let him get some practice in.

DW’s friend Wiggy was up from the South to pay a visit to Warhammer World, so we took the opportunity to make it a day for a 3-person mini-tournament!
We only had 8 hours to get in 3 games. Each one of us would play twice, playing everyone in round-robin fashion. We used the Maelstrom of War missions (using the Tactical Objectives), rolling randomly to decide the mission. The first two players were decided by rolling a die, with Wiggy and David playing first. Frank got to sit and see Wiggy’s Mechanicum force in action! The overall winner would be decided by the total of Victory Points earned in every game!!

Space Wolves v Mechanicum
The board setup – there’s no more ‘roll for terrain’, you just place the terrain as you like it. I imagine tournaments will handle this very differently, but if you want to set up like an entrance to a city with wide-open areas at one side and a mega-dense area at the other, you can do that. It makes it a little less tactical but for ‘serious’ games you can roll 6th edition style. I think 7th requires you to talk a lot more with the other player to decide what sort of feel you both want for the game.
Unbound Tyranid & Chaos (Forgefiend in the middle of the picture and Heldrake in reserve) army faces off against a Dark Angel Deathwing force.
Two games with the Hammertime 40K crew today! Most of us were able to show up and get in a 2 vs 1 game starting just before noon, and around 3 we started a 4-player free-for all using the just-released Carnage rules from Black Library. Game 1: Dark Angels defending
Not sure if these are worth a tenner, but these are the highlights of the new Cypher rules the Black Library released this week, from a user on Something Awful: I grabbed the new Cypher dataslate against my better judgment so here’s a quick summary: Cypher is 190 points with
Daemon Prince (acting as Be’Lakor) Forgefiend 10 Terminators 4 Khorne Berzerkers Biker (will be built as a Chaos Lord) Helbrute (thanks for the reminder!) – will be Nurgle-ized!
Finally finished these guys! That’s 2 squads of Chaos termies ready to go 🙂 Of course I still have 10 Dark Vengeance Deathwing guys left to convert…boohoohoo! More pictures on Tiny Plastic Spacemen
Boom!
Despite not being of the Chaos persuasion, nor having read much of the fluff, I found this explanation of Abaddon’s motivation and back story interesting – especially as he seems to come in for a lot of flakk from the fanboys: http://aarondembskibowden.wordpress.com/2013/08/22/lets-talk-about-abaddon/ Hmm, might read some more of the Black
